Peripherals of Computer

            Peripherals for Your Computer 



Introduction:

  • Peripherals are the external devices that extends the functionality of a computer.
  • Below mentioned devices are some of the add-ons and let us see how they work and for what.
  • Peripherals are categorized into Input, Output and Storage and other devices.

I.Input Devices:


Mouse and Keyboard
  • Primary input devices for computer.
  • Mouse is used for cursor movement.
  • Keyboard is used for data input.

Scanners

  • Used to scan documents and photographs into computer.
  • Scan documents can be editable through a software called Optical Charecter Recognition(OCR).



                                           

Cameras

  • Through cameras we can input Images, Videos and Movies.
  • Data transferred can be saved,edited,printed and can email for others.



Webcam
  • Mostly used to male video calls using broadband connection.
  • Can see the other person talking to using webcam.


                                          



II.Output Devices:


Printers

  • External hardware output device.
  • Converts electronic data stored in a computer into hard copy.
  • Most commonly used external device to print text and images.
  • Printers are categorized as Impact and Non-impact printers.

Meaning Produces text and images by striking ink ribbon on to the paper. Produces text and graphics on paper without striking the paper.

III.Storage Devices:


Flash Drive


  • Small drives capable of holding much information (4 GB - 16 GB) and even more.
  • Easier to save and retrieve.
  • Can be saved and erased many times.
                           

External Hard Drive


  • External Storage device capable of holding large amount of data(200+ GB).
  • Data can be easily transferred between computers.
  • Re writable and is like a hard drive in CPU.



                             




IV.Other Devices:


Wireless Internet Devices
  • Used to connect to internet.
  • Extrenal USB wireless device or Wifi-Router are the examples.



         




CD/DVD Media
  • Used for back data and for making  audio,video CD's.
  • Comes in either Write once(CDR) and re-writable (CD-RW) format.

Cell Phone Data Cable
  • Used to connect mobile phones to your computer.
  • Used to transfer pictures, movies, videos and other data from computer to mobile phone and vice-versa.


                                      



Surge Protector/UPS
  • Used for battery backup when power goes out.
  • Protects your computer from abnormal shut-down which leads to files corrupt.


USB Hub



  • Used to connect between computers via USB port for data sharing.
  • Extends the amount of USB ports of the system.
